Plavac Mali wine is produced from the grape variety of the same name. This wine is in our top quality range which we produce only in the best years and in small quantities. Plavac Mali is above all the product of its terroir, i.e., the sum of natural influences in the vineyard.

For this wine we use only the grapes from select vineyards located at the best positions on the southern side of Hvar Island where the soil is dry, rocky limestone. The extreme conditions of the steep and sunny slopes on the southern side of Hvar Island (Ivan Dolac, Sv. Nedjelja, Jagodna) impose the organic approach as the only choice – in other words, manual labour, with minimal intervention into natural processes and resulting in small yields of highest quality grapes (0.5 to maximum 1 kg).

The natural intensity of the varietal aromas of dark and ripe fruit (sour cherry, plum), Mediterranean herbs and minerality is rounded up by aging the wine for 12 months in a combination of new and used French barrique barrels, which adds notes of wood, leather, game, tobacco and spices. The final special quality of our Plavac Mali lies in its “French” type of elegance, as this wine has a tendency towards preserving both the classic of Plavac Mali aromas, as well as the style of Old Continent wines, focused on structure, complexity and the duration of flavour.

Its character will be best appreciated if served at 18-20 °C. This wine makes a first-rate match with spicier dishes, roasted meat and especially with Dalmatian culinary specialties such as brudet and pašticada.
