ZURE Winery

The family Batistić-Zure has been professionally producing grapes and wine since 1995, but their tradition in agriculture (viticulture, olive oil production, vegetable growing, fishing, cattle breeding, etc.) in Lumbarda on the island of Korčula goes much further back – 600 years, in fact, as old as the Batistić family line is. The winery has always cultivated, valued and produced the autochthonous variety grk from the sandy soil in Lumbarda, both grapes and wine. In 2011, through the reclamation of karst and the terrain on the location “Defora” in Lumbarda under the supervision of professor Bernard Kozina from the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb, the family started a modern vineyard with ca 33000 grapevines, an olive grove with around 500 olive trees and an orchard with about 200 fruit trees of various kinds. It must be pointed out that the wines are produced solely from grapes from the winery’s own vineyards.
The emphasis in the production is, of course, on grk, the autochthonous variety of Lumbarda, and the winery is the largest producer of this grape variety and wine in Lumbarda. Along with the wine “Bartul” and Sur Lie, made from the grk variety, the winery produces wines from Pošip, Plavac mali and the wine “Rebellion” (assemblage of five red varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Plavac mali, Alicante Bouschet). The winery also produces prošek from the grk variety “Elysion” and sparkling wine form the grk variety “Quinta Essentia”, which present the grk variety in a completely new way. The Batistić-Zure family is also in agrotourism, where their hard work in vegetable growing, fishing, olive growing, olive oil production and pig farming is presented in the family restaurant “Zure”. There guests can taste all these products and the traditional cuisine of the region, accompanied by the wines from the winery. Apart from wines, the Batistić-Zure family also produces olive oil and various fruit and herbal liqueurs.
