Miklaužić Winery

Welcome to Moslavina, the winegrowing region! On the gentle slopes of the Moslavačka Mountain, offering a wide view of the Lonja Field, the fourth generation of the Miklaužić family works the vineyards – 25 ha of vineyards specific for the use of cover cropping and the ecological approach to the protection and cultivation of the grapevines. The majority of the wines offered are small series of the rare autochthonous variety škrlet and the classic French repertoire (Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Muscats).

Škrlet

The variety škrlet is an indispensable part of the story of the Moslavina winegrowing hills. It is a very rare autochthonous variety found only in the Moslavina and Pokuplje area, of extreme significance for the development of winegrowing in our region. It was grown by our ancestors as well, who called it “ovnek žuti” (“yellow ram”) due to the shape of the grape bunch, which resembles a ram’s head. The bunches are not tightly packed – there is room between the berries. This room prevents the accumulation of moisture and enables the circulation of air between berries, which reduces the chances of disease and enables less protective substances to be used compared with other varieties. Škrlet is therefore extremely suitable ecological growing. The grape bunch is green in the beginning, next becomes yellow, and in the end it attains a coating of purple color.

These bunches give a light wine of fresh, fruity aromas, extremely potable and suitable for pairing with light dishes. It is a special part of Croatian winemaking that is also recognized abroad and sought after more and more every year.

Miklaužić Winery is the best-known producer of wine from this autochthonous variety, producing yearly 22 000 liters of Škrlet. The winery is the winner of numerous medals and awards for this variety; here we will single out the Crystal Glass by Večernji list for the best autochthonous variety at Vinovita, the silver medal awarded this year at the IWC in London, which is the highest award ever given to this variety, and the golden medal at the exhibition in Moscow.
