Voštinić - Klasnić Winery

Voštinić – Klasnić Winery has existed since 1936, but the two brothers went into serious business in the last 15 years. With our youth, liveliness, fervor, defiance and wish for continuing our great grandfather’s tradition we continue the “old-new” path of this wonderful business of viticulture and winemaking. The team of people who participate in the winery’s work is made of the workers on the vineyard and equipment maintenance, enologists, my brother, and me, and we also consult designer and architect teams. We are open to a completely new approach to vineyards and wine, and our main motive and pride is Škrlet, variety that, owing to the great effort of the viticulture profession, has been revitalized and is now building a prominent career on the Croatian wine scene. We hope to expand the plantations of this variety and so secure a certain quantity for the world market. The interest in Škrlet is, justifiably, greater every day. There is an interesting reaction when we offer Škrlet to a taster with a lot of experience in wines. The public has reached the peak in its interest for standardized wines. Škrlet is fresh, extremely aromatic and light, and world trends are shifting precisely towards this style of wines. Last year we participated in IWC, the prestigious international wine competition, with the Škrlet of the 2013 vintage and were awarded the title Commended Wine. We accepted the challenge of producing stylistically different wines and in doing so shattered the preconceived notion that Škrlet is a one-year wine. We have produced the regular vintage of Škrlet (the basis is the 40-year-old plantation of our grandfather) and the first predicate Škrlet of late vintage (the basis is the plantation from certified seedlings where the results contained literally one orange grape bunch per vine). We are extremely excited and proud of a novelty in our cellar, the orange Škrlet. It is a wine fermented with indigenous yeast and must for 23 days and 22 nights. This wine is then left to itself, the silence of the basement and time. We hope to write a full page of impressions about it in a few years’ time. Planned for the near future is the project of Elite Wine Tourism, the likes of which have not been seen in continental Croatia.
